Nepal's devastating earthquake was the disaster experts knew was coming.
Just a week ago, about 50 earthquake and social scientists from around the world came to Nepal to figure out how to get this poor built are to prepare better for the big one, a repeat of the 1934 earthquake that leveled this city. They knew they were racing the clock, but they didn't know when what they feared would strike.
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake was the most violent from the past 80 years in the country, it caused several aftershocks and massive landslides in the Mount Everest, where 18 people died at the beginning of the climbing season.
The earthquake also caused damage to houses, buildings, temples and monumenets resulting in more than 4000 deaths and 7000 injured. Since the earthquake, residents and tourists look for survivors in the wreckage. Some injured people were eventually treated outside hospitals, overcrowded due to scale of the disaster.
